The architecture exhibition Culture: City is opening today in Berlin’s Academy of the Arts.
Art and culture have become crucial driving forces in a multitude of different ways for innovative and successful urban design and planning - essential ingredients for metropolises around the globe as they forge and assert their identity. Culture:City considers the future of our cities from this specific perspective. The exhibition engages in a critical exploration of the relationship between art and social reality in the 21st century, highlighting how art and culture shape cities and architecture.
In 15 documentary or fictional films with a really personal twist, students from the DFFB examine the 15 buildings presented in the show – auteur portraits of specific places and their environs. Short versions of these films punctuate the exhibition, and the full-length works will be showcased in a special screening programme flanking the exhibition.
