Events at the dffb
Now and then the Academy Forum is open to students of related disciplines, friends and cineastes. Current films are shown and discussed in the presence of their makers. Thematic relations, trends and social movement are analyzed in accompanying essays, presentations and research by internal professors and students as well as external specialists.
In 2008, the Werkschau was brought to life – the student film festival of the dffb. A two-day program of films in both cinemas of Kino Arsenal and the cinema at the dffb shows a selection of works made at the dffb in the previous year.
Every second year since 2006, the Helene Schwarz Director’s Award is presented to a director to distinguish their second year’s film.
The Michael Ballhaus Foundation, which is closely connected to the dffb, regularly gives an award to support young students of cinematography, presenting the Michael Ballhaus Award to a cinematography student at the dffb.
The last dffb Open House took place on the October, 8th, 2011. A selection of films from the past decades at the dffb is shown, as well as current production, and curriculum and general information is given to each line of study. Script readings, lectures, technical presentations and a tour of the dffb and the new sound studio were also given.
