He studied Fine Arts at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and Film at Le Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains in France. This was followed by a degree in directing at the DFFB in 2006. Teboho Edkins' documentary films have been shown at many festivals, in group and solo exhibitions, including the Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Museum of Modern Art as well as the Berlinale, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and the International Film Festival in Rotterdam.
