Every year, the fes\u00adti\u00adval show\u00adcas\u00ades the lat\u00adest film pro\u00adduc\u00adtions from Berlin and Bran\u00adden\u00adburg \u2013 high\u00adlight\u00ading the diver\u00adsi\u00adty and artis\u00adtic strength of region\u00adal film\u00admak\u00ading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fes\u00adti\u00adval kicks off with the DFFB grad\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion film MAMBO MATERNICA<\/a><\/em> by Bor\u00adb\u00e1la Nagy (DoP: Moritz Friese, E: L\u00e1s\u00adzl\u00f3 Dunai, P: Mar\u00adgari\u00adta Amine\u00adva-Jester, Daria Wich\u00admann): it cel\u00ade\u00adbrates its Ger\u00adman pre\u00admiere on 15 April at the Colos\u00adse\u00adum cin\u00ade\u00adma \u2013 there\u00adby offi\u00adcial\u00adly open\u00ading the fes\u00adti\u00adval. In the fea\u00adture film com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion, the film tells the sto\u00adry of three women in Europe who are at turn\u00ading points in their lives and are seek\u00ading their own path to self-deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion amidst the desire to have chil\u00addren, preg\u00adnan\u00adcy and soci\u00adetal expec\u00adta\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DFFB is also strong\u00adly rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00aded in the doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adtary film sec\u00adtion: A JEWISH PROBLEM<\/a><\/em> von Ron Roth\u00adschild (DoP: Ron Roth\u00adschild, Julien May\u00ader, Fion Mutert, Masha Biller, Sina Aghaz\u00adadeh, E: Astrid Hohle Hansen, P: Yusuf Celik) explores the ques\u00adtion of Jew\u00adish iden\u00adti\u00adty in the present day and exam\u00adines both per\u00adson\u00adal and soci\u00adetal per\u00adspec\u00adtives. Klara Hard\u00aden takes an inti\u00admate approach to the theme of moth\u00ader\u00adhood in WOMAN\/\u200bMOTHER<\/a><\/em> which brings to light indi\u00advid\u00adual expe\u00adri\u00adences caught between con\u00adflict\u00ading social expec\u00adta\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four fur\u00adther works are com\u00adpet\u00ading in the short film com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion \u2013 and demon\u00adstrate the breadth of cin\u00ade\u00admat\u00adic approach\u00ades: EVERYTHING WE WANT TO KNOW<\/em><\/a> (D\/\u200bS: Julia Ketel\u00adhut, DoP: Julien May\u00ader, P: Julia Ketel\u00adhut, Julien May\u00ader) explores ques\u00adtions of knowl\u00adedge, per\u00adcep\u00adtion and per\u00adson\u00adal ori\u00aden\u00adta\u00adtion in every\u00adday life. In THE BRACELET<\/a> <\/em>(D\/\u200bS: Ari\u00adna Cher\u00adno\u00adva, Jer\u00adri Baza\u00adta, DoP: Masha Biller, P: Jer\u00adri Baza\u00adta, Ari\u00adna Cher\u00adno\u00adva, E: Robert Franz, Ari\u00adna Cher\u00adno\u00adva), a seem\u00ading\u00adly small object becomes the start\u00ading point for a sto\u00adry about mem\u00ado\u00adry, rela\u00adtion\u00adships and hid\u00adden mean\u00adings. And PROTAGONIST<\/em> <\/a>(D\/\u200bS: Nathalie Sei\u00addl, DoP: Ari Salazar, P: Tanya Tsygano\u00adva, E: Celine J\u00fcnger) explores iden\u00adti\u00adty as a play between per\u00adfor\u00admance and real\u00adi\u00adty. AN ARM IS AN ARM IS AN ARM<\/em><\/a> (D\/\u200bS\/\u200bM\/\u200bP: Bas\u00adt\u00adian Gascho, DoP: Sel\u00adma von Pol\u00adheim Gravesen) links a con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adtion between two friends about bod\u00adi\u00adly per\u00adcep\u00adtion and loss to a qui\u00adet image of tran\u00adsience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Posi\u00adtioned between these for\u00admats, THE PLANT FROM THE CANARIES <\/em>(D: Ruan Lan-Xi, DoP: Jonathan Steil) fea\u00adtures in the com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion for medi\u00adum-length films. Through poet\u00adic imagery, the film explores migra\u00adtion, belong\u00ading and the search for iden\u00adti\u00adty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grad\u00adu\u00adate pro\u00adduc\u00adtions in the fes\u00adti\u00adval pro\u00adgramme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only cur\u00adrent stu\u00addents but also DFFB grad\u00adu\u00adates are shap\u00ading this year\u2019s pro\u00adgramme: In the fea\u00adture film com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion, SOLO SHOW <\/em>(S: Julia Rose Gostyn\u00ads\u00adki) is screen\u00ading, a film about frag\u00adile self-images and their grad\u00adual shat\u00adter\u00ading. In the medi\u00adum-length for\u00admat, DIE UNVERZICHTBAREN (<\/em>D\/\u200bS: Flo\u00adri\u00adan Hoff\u00admann) turns its gaze towards those whose often invis\u00adi\u00adble work under\u00adpins the fab\u00adric of soci\u00adety. And in the short film DADDY, KOMPLEX <\/em>(D\/\u200bS: Mireya Hei\u00adder de Jahnsen), the focus is on fam\u00adi\u00adly influ\u00adences, author\u00adi\u00adty and emo\u00adtion\u00adal depen\u00adden\u00adcies. The Berlin Spot\u00adlights sec\u00adtion also fea\u00adtures BALANCE<\/em> (S\/\u200bP: Ina-Lene Dinse), which tells the sto\u00adry of a father-daugh\u00adter encounter in which close\u00adness, dis\u00adtance and unspo\u00adken con\u00adflicts col\u00adlide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cre\u00adates a mul\u00adti\u00adfac\u00adeted pic\u00adture of the Academy\u2019s work: doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adtary and fic\u00adtion\u00adal, focused and exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal \u2013 and close\u00adly linked to the Berlin film scene, which it sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
