VGF – DFFB International Producers Programme

The International Producers Programme is offered to DFFB students by the DFFB with the assistance of the Verwertungsgesellschaft für Nutzungsrechte an Filmwerken (Collecting Society for Exploitation Rights in Cinematographic Works & Co. Ltd.). The International Producers Programme combines established activities with new initiatives that allow producing students to take part in seminars, workshops, excursions, and to gain extensive practical experience.
In their final year of study, producing students benefit from individual mentoring, which prepares them to enter the workforce and to fine-tune their producer profiles.

The International Producers Programme consists of the following components:

1. Seminars and workshops

With the seminars Turnaround, Pre-Berlinale, and World Producers Masterclass, we offer an introduction to the global film industry, its value chain, its economic terms, and its historical developments within the areas of production, distribution, and markets. Students gain insight into the work processes and structures of the Berlin International Film Festival, Berlinale Talents, and the European Film Market, and are given the opportunity to meet festival organisers, distributors, and producers.
Moreover, through closely examining various case studies, students learn about the management of large budgets for international productions.

2. Mentoring and practical experience

In their final year of study, each producing student is matched with a mentor who works in the German film industry. Students are mentored through the production process of their graduation films and are given advice and assistance pertaining to their future careers.
During the summer of 2018, the DFFB Film Festival will take place. The festival is curated by
producing students.

3. International Forum and important markets

A trip to the international short film festival Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, to the Festival de Cannes, to the International Young Filmmakers’ Award in Hannover, and to DOK Leipzig are part of the International Producers Programme. During these festivals, producing students not only discover outstanding films, but also explore the festivals’ programmes and markets, discuss filmmaking issues with producers, and meet (young) filmmakers from all over the world.

The International Producers Programme was made possible with the generous funding and support of the VGF:
