Aslı Özarslan, born in 1986 in Berlin, stud­ied The­atre and Media Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Bayreuth as well as Phi­los­o­phy and Soci­ol­o­gy at the Uni­ver­sité Sor­bonne IV in Paris. From 2012 to 2017, she stud­ied doc­u­men­tary direct­ing at the Fil­makademie Baden-Würt­tem­berg. Her films INSEL 36 (2014) and DIL LEYLA (2016) were award­ed at nation­al and inter­na­tion­al fes­ti­vals. With ELLBOGEN (2024), she made her fic­tion debut. The film cel­e­brat­ed its world pre­miere at the 74th Berli­nale and received mul­ti­ple awards, includ­ing Best Lit­er­ary Adap­ta­tion at the Frank­furt Book Fair
