Coming of Age

Coming Of Age is a film that follows teenagers over the course of two years as they grow up deep in the southern African mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Very little happens in the village of Ha Sekake, but from their perspective, a lot is at stake. Lefa, who wears her heart on her sleeve, sees her world fall apart when her best friend Senate leaves the village. She too must decide whether to stay or leave in search of a better education and new opportunities. Retabile takes care of the family’s livestock up in a remote cattle post, for eight months of the year. He is helped by his younger brother Mosaku, who watches as Retabile goes through a rite of passage that will mark his transition into manhood. The summer of youth is quickly over, doors into adulthood open and close.

Silent Days

A normal street somewhere in Berlin. It’s winter. The people who are doing their shopping or taking the bus here have to go to work or to school, they’re unemployed or retired. Once in a while a car goes by, apart from that it’s relatively quiet. Then the first snow of the year starts falling and for a moment everything changes. The sounds fade out, the light gets brighter and the movements get more cautious. It seems as if the people themselves were changing. A documentary about the first snow of the year in Berlin.

Hopscotch

Call of Beauty

„Call of Beauty“ tells a story about the real-life ego-shooters in our society. It's about the power of evaluation, the obsession with beauty, it's about friendship and the microcosm of a girl's toilet – the hotspot of our pubescent protagonists. This is where they put on their faces and take of their masks, where they destroy each other and forgive. It's the never-ending fight between the real and the fake. Jenny and Lana (both 14) used to be best friends, since kindergarden. But their friendship is at a crossroads. Amanda changed her look and her circle of friends, trying to reinvent herself and get closer to her big love, Ivan. Lana feels left out. At the point of escalation, the girl-friends stick together, not knowing that the big payback is yet to come.

Alina

Alina wants to go to a party that could change her life. The peer pressure is so great, that Alina is prepared to risk her entire family's lives for a chance to go. For the game, for life, for death, where's the difference? The film is a snap-shot of a moment between childhood and adult life, a situation, in which growing up is delayed. And it is an outlook at the impact actions can have when you are given responsibility. But not yet. The teens can still defy time and adulthood.
