As if Mother Cried that Night

Sirvan and Hoda, an Iranian couple whose asylum application was rejected in Germany, live in a refugee camp in Berlin. In order to obtain a residence permit, they decide that Hoda should become pregnant by a German man, in order to give both of them the right to stay in Germany. As we pursue this unconventional path of getting a permission to stay, we lose ourselves in the labyrinth of German bureaucracy and remain there with no solution and with the bitter feeling that current laws and structures are deeply qustionable.

This is the last time I’m doing this

Matthias and Cosmo go to an extended family party and have something to say to his mother Gunde. But next to the hustle and bustle, encroaching aunts and Gunde's dominant behaviour, it doesn't come to that. Instead, they are asked to deliver a cake to family friends on their way home. Shortly thereafter, they are faced with closed doors. While they wait and night falls, they playfully try to get closer. But their unspoken fears and opposing ideas of family and the future collide.

Torpor

With the death of her brother, Asra loses access to the world around her and to her actual sense of self. Lost, Asra drifts aimlessly around the mundane remnants of her life. Only the encounter with her sister-in-law opens the hermetical seal against the outside world. The two women become each other's gateway to a past in which they come together to grieve. Together, they can take a step out of the obliterative isolation that afflicts body and mind in mourning.

Ladida

We get to know our protagonist Amalia in the comfort of her apartment: a sacred playground where she spends hours forgetting about time. She begins to form a bond with a cat who becomes a usual guest. Less so with the cat’s owner, her neighbor, who anticipates Amalia to be a more active participant in her own life. Through the unexpected pregnancy of Cat, their different ways of approaching life clash. This film is about longing or not longing, and the question if we all need to have something to wish for.

Everything I had…

For years, we try to envision what a city is and how it should be, spending time asking ourselves if everything fits optimally into our simple routines. A city, a big city, the city of our dreams, it finds itself in an undefinable status of ongoing construction. What effect does the design of this dream city have on our minds? From Berlin, Germany, in Europe, where hope still exists for a better future…

Evil Thoughts

The secluded life of the bitter Ulrike and her mysterious son Sigi is disturbed by the appearance of a young outsider. Agatha shows up at the door one evening, without any luggage and with soaking wet hair. After the police fail to intervene, Ulrike grudgingly lets her spend the night. While she goes to work during the day, Agatha and Sigi circle each other in the secluded house. Until Agatha precisely places her finger in the wound that has tied Sigi to the house and to his mother for so long. Agatha disappears as suddenly as she came, leaving Sigi and Ulrike to fend for themselves.
