The Gamblers
Enframed by a setting uncoupled of time:
The general visits with his two children and his stepdaughter Polina Baden-Baden. Supposingly to enjoy all this health resort has to offer, far off his routine in Russia. But, as it seems, the group of Russians, followed by a French ‚businessman‘ and a French beauty came to Baden-Baden to make business. Either to make the big bucks in one of the numerous casinos, or to consilidate their social position by making new familarly engagements. Inside this world, that seems to be very confusing to the outsider, Alexej Iwanovitsch, former gambler and in duty to teach the generals children, falls in love with Polina. Soon Alexej realizes that the world he has entered is ruled by shortage of money and unfullfilled dreams. These circumstances coupled with Alexej‘s lower social status and his self-inflicted forbiddance of gambling, doesn‘t let him look likely to be the best match for Polina.
Either way, wherever you look: One needs money. The news of the death of Babuschka, a rich aunt from Moskow, bring a little relieve to the general and a solution for his financial problems, also it seems like Alexej has lost his final chance to gain the love of Polina. But things are going differently...
