A spectre is haunting Europe

Berlin, a summer in the age of neoliberalism: the spectre of the soviet avant-garde is haunting the city. A young Georgian contract-worker is surprised to find the ghost of the Russian revolutionary poet Vladimir Mayakovsky in his kitchen. At the same time, his friend Kasimir inherits a big fortune, but what shall he do with all this money? Framed by a travel through time leading to Flaubert’s 19th Century und the shooting of a revisionist melodrama for German television, the film follows the adventures of these three characters in contemporary Berlin. A suprematist digital comedy about the transmission of emancipatory energies.

They live in a miserable apartment, that Dima refuses to leave, because he’s convinced the Turkish men in the court-yard will break in if he does so. Nastja thinks he’s completely paranoid. The only person Dima knows is his brother Boris, who runs a shady garage. He offers Dima a job, but Dima refuses to make money with anything else than his music. Henry is alone in a silent and darkened apartment, anxious and waiting by the phone, as his small child sleeps. Finally, a call. His wife Claire is on the other side of the world on a beach at a luxury resort, drunk, also in the dark, but apparently not alone. An adulterous affair or a life in danger? In the harrowing wait and frantic calls that follow, is it his mariage, his wife or his sanity that is most under threat? The telephone line is the single fragile thread that connects them, and all he can do is hang on.
