My Father. My Uncle.

A moving documentary, chronicling the story of 26-year old, Iraq-born Sinan, who was adopted at birth by his uncle Farouq and his German wife Brunhilde. Following the couple’s split a few years later, he was taken by his mother to Darmstadt, Germany, where he has lived ever since. In ‘My Father, My Uncle’, we watch as Sinan prepares to meet his original family, now exiled from Iraq and based in Sharjah, UAE. Knowing little about his Arabic origins or culture, Sinan views the impending meeting with trepidation. However, while the reunion brings a complex tangle of emotions to the surface, the experience proves to be an enriching and insightful experience for all concerned, as their respective cultures and ideologies are shared and debated.

Westerntown

The „Spreepark Plänterwald“ was the most popular amusement park in the DDR. After the fall of the wall the park was mismanaged into financial ruin. For 4 years this area at the edge of Berlin lies in a state of hibernation: nature is taking back its land; the fairground rides are overgrown with ivy; the fencing has numerous holes, making the job harder for the security personnel. Inside this zone lays a small westerntown. Here Peter and Nancy Schiller live with their five children. They are all hardy country fans.
