My Mother’s Tears – Berlin Buenos Aires

Alex, (27), returns to Argentina to visit his dying father. There, his mother and old family friends join him and memories begin to surface from his childhood in the early 80’s. Alex and his parents flee Argentina during the military takeover in the late 70’s. They finally settle in West Berlin, where they live in an industrial loft, together with an eclectic group of people who soon become important figures in Alex’s life. As Alex turns seven years old, he discovers that he has a strange and special gift. Alex has telekinetic powers, which help him adapt to his new life and surroundings. While Alex experiences the growing pains of falling in love for the first time and troubles at school, his parents are trying to come to terms with the frustrations of living in exile. They are constantly worrying about money and have difficulties adapting to the way of life in Germany. Alex’s mother, Lizzie, sees Germany as a chance to raise her child in freedom. She learns the language, embraces the new culture, and quickly finds work. Carlos, Alex’s father, suffers from the burdens of life in exile and longs to return to Argentina. Everyday, he feels more rejected and misunderstood. As time goes on, Alex’s parents find it more and more difficult to relate to one another, with Alex caught in the middle. In a desperate attempt to save his parents love, he uses his special gift.
