A long-term, Medienboard-funded durational docu-fiction directed by artist and filmmaker Rachel Ashton. The film follows the working process between director and performer as actor Cammisa Buerhaus develops the delivery of a monologue about a woman struck by lightning seven times, through repetition and rehearsal. Filmed periodically over six months with a small crew, the project unfolds largely in the actor’s Berlin apartment and a dance rehearsal studio.
ABOUT THE SCENE
The opening scene will be a single continuous Steadicam shot lasting approximately four minutes. Inspired by Raymond Carver’s short story ‚What We Talk About When We Talk About Love‘, set in 1981 in New Mexico, USA, where the opening scene involves two couples seated around a table, engaged in a conversation about love. The scene is staged like a play and is performed by four actors. Cammisa Buerhaus plays the role of Nick, the narrator, who addresses the audience directly. The remaining three roles, Mel, Terri, and Laura, are what we are currently casting.
WE ARE CURRENTLY CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES
LAURA (played by a man)
Men, including cis and non-binary. Aged from 28 to 40. Thin, lanky, tall, 6’0″ – the kind of person who does not quite know what to do with their limbs. Curly hair, always a little unkempt. The sweetest, most earnest person. Very lovely, almost too nice. Open, gentle, and easy to care for. The kind of person who makes you want to protect them, but somehow that becomes part of the problem.
ABOUT THE JOB
This is an unpaid opportunity. However, food, drinks, and snacks will be provided on set and during rehearsals. The actors we are looking for should be American native English speakers, or fluent English speakers with no noticeable accent.

Auditions: June 4th
Rehearsal day: Preferably June 10th. We strongly prefer this date, however scheduling can be discussed and adjusted around availability if needed. Shoot day: July 1st
