Hiring long-term short-form video editor

We are building a distinctive short-form content brand around cosmic horror, atmospheric dread, psychological tension, and classic Lovecraftian themes, presented by a female creator. We are a two-person team

We are looking for a long-term editor who understands that these videos need to achieve three goals simultaneously:

1. Hold attention and maximize Instagram retention
2. Use the shots in which the model looks most attractive
3. Maintain strong cinematic, artistic, and storytelling quality

These priorities will sometimes conflict. We need someone capable of reviewing the available footage and Instagram retention graphs, understanding our goals, and making intelligent decisions about which shots, pacing, sound, and effects to use.

We are still far from the production quality we ultimately want. We have an ambitious creative vision and want an editor who is excited to help us bring it to life.

The ideal editor

You have strong cinematic taste and want to keep improving both the artistic quality and retention performance of your work.

You make thoughtful creative decisions, contribute useful ideas, ask for analytics or additional information when needed, research new techniques, and actively develop skills that can improve our content.

You are also reliable, detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable collaborating with a growing marketing team.

Non-negotiable requirements

* Strong english
* Proven experience with retention-focused editing
* Evidence of videos you edited that achieved viral or exceptionally strong organic reach
* Strong cinematic and visual taste
* Professional proficiency with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or another established professional editing program
* Strong color correction and color-grading skills
* Experience working with standard and LOG footage
* Confident use of LUTs
* Ability to create convincing day-to-night grades
* Strong sound editing and sound-design skills
* Ability to clean dialogue, reduce noise, balance levels, and improve imperfect source audio
* Good musical judgment, including choosing music that supports tension, pacing, storytelling, retention, and brand identity
* Ability to maintain a consistent visual and sonic identity across multiple videos
* Strong creative judgment and willingness to provide useful creative input
* Reliable communication and consistent daily availability

When showing viral work, you must explain exactly what you edited and provide links, analytics screenshots, or other reasonable evidence of its performance

Minimum horror experience

You should have edited at least a few horror, suspense, thriller, or dark atmospheric videos.

You do not need to be a specialized horror editor. However, extensive experience with horror storytelling, psychological tension, atmospheric pacing, or cinematic suspense will be a major advantage.

Strong advantages, but not required

* Understanding of Instagram retention graphs and audience-drop-off patterns
* Experience with horror content
* Masking and compositing
* Velocity curves and speed ramping
* AI-assisted monster or creature creation
* Familiarity with Lovecraftian themes

Responsibilities

* Edit approximately one short-form Instagram video per day initially (they are around 1 minute long), with the possibility of increasing the volume
* Deliver every edit by the agreed deadline and at the expected quality level
* Review every timeline and export carefully to prevent avoidable mistakes involving audio, subtitles, timing, continuity, framing, color, effects, or file delivery
* Prioritize our instructions, brand strategy, and Instagram retention data
* Learn to balance retention performance, the model’s appearance, conversion potential, and cinematic quality
* Review Instagram retention graphs and other performance analytics to identify editing decisions that could be improved
* When you have an alternative creative idea, complete the requested version first and present your alternative in a separate timeline
* Attend scheduled meetings and respond to work messages reliably
* Research trends, competitors, successful short-form formats, horror references, editing techniques, music, sound design, and emerging creative tools
* Proactively request the footage, analytics, references, or context needed to make better decisions
* Help develop a recognizable and consistent editing style for the brand

Compensation and workload

* Starting payment: $30 USD per completed edit
* Initial workload: approximately one video per day
* The volume and responsibilities may increase as the account and marketing team grow
* We want someone interested in eventually working full-time, although the role may not provide full-time hours immediately
* Consistent availability throughout the week is required

There is meaningful growth potential in this role. As the marketing operation expands, a strong editor may receive more work, greater creative responsibility, and the opportunity to grow with the editing team
