filmmaking assistance for the international literature magazine – 18.08.

My name is Divya Ghelani. I’m a Berlin-based fiction writer and journalist. I’m currently working in the editorial department of London-based Wasafiri Magazine, a celebrated high-end international literary magazine with a forty-year heritage, which has published authors such as Booker prize-winning Kazuo Ishiguro, Bernadine Evaristo, Kiran Desai, the late Ngugi Wa Thiongo, and many more.

I am running a Berlin International Writers Series for Wasafiri Online. It is called ‚Writing the Self, Writing Berlin‘, and the first piece has just been published – a meditation on novel-writing, IVF, and what it means to try for things you want in life.

For the second piece, I’m planning a ‚4 Writers In Conversation‘ filmed article, also for the Wasafiri website. It would include award-winning writers and poets Deniz Utlu, my husband the novelist Rajeev Balasubramanyam, poet and translator Sylee Gore, and novelist/translator, Vijay Kharuna.

I plan to film the piece in the Community Garden behind the Church of Reconciliation, next to the Berlin Wall in Mitte. The meeting will take place 12 noon on August 18th.

If any film students with filming equipment are willing to take up the task in exchange for novels, Wasafiri Magazines, lunch, and a written reference from me?

I’d be deeply grateful for your help and hope a student is keen as film and writing work is so aligned, and you will understand my wish to do my absolute best for the writers I’m platforming on a very small budget.

My mobile is 0173 942 4637. They’d need to bring with them: a camera, a tripod, and little mics.
